Welcome to the online California Film Permit Application.
A permit is required whenever filming takes place on state property. The California Film Commission is a one stop shop for State permits and will assist you in obtaining the required approvals from the CHP, Caltrans, State Parks, Facilities and the State Fire Marshal, where necessary.

All permit applications must be submitted four (4) business days (weekends and holidays are not business days) prior to the first prep/shoot day. (For road closures a meeting is required at least twelve (12) business days in advance of prep/shoot.)
LATE APPLICATION SUBMISSION PROCEDURES
WARNING: Permit applications submitted with intentionally wrong dates will be denied.
If you need to request a permit with less than 4 days notice, we may be able to fulfill your request if the following steps are successfully completed:
1. Contact the appropriate CFC Permit Coordinator to determine if application can be accommodated based on work load.

2. If CFC approval is given, contact the approving Agency and obtain permission for desired location/activity.
3. If Agency approval is given, contact CFC Permit Coordinator to confirm that Agency approval was granted. CFC Permit
Coordinator will provide late application submission procedures.
